Hi, trying to add an account recovery contact (my husband) but it keeps saying it cannot add him bc he isn’t using iMessage… he is. I tried to add myself for the kids as well but I’m getting the same message. It allowed me to add one kid as the contact for the other, though. I’ve turned iMessage off and back on but it’s not changing anything.

At the risk of sounding Microsoft’ish …
… have you tried power off restart cycles of all devices.
Sometimes this gets all the networked “pieces” back in-sync and resolves seemingly “inexplicable” issues.
Two more questions:
1) Are you running iOS16 ?
2) Do you have Recovery Key for the accounts set to “on” ?
(I’m wondering if having it “on” under 16 might be causing this … although it certainly doesn’t explain the odd message.)
When you “text” your husband, is it a “blue bubble” or a “green bubble” ?
Yes! All of our messages between iPhones are iMessage! It doesn’t make any sense!
Lol! I have not, surprisingly! I will, though. We’ll see what happens!
Nope. Still nothing. His won’t work for mine and mine won’t work for his.
