Late 2016 Macbook Pro 15” flexgate

Just reporting that my 5 year old macbook pro is considered not worth apple’s time. Can’t open the screen more than 30 degrees without screen shutting off. I’ve called numerous times and tried to escalate the call to the best of my abilities but “it’s out of warranty” and “they’re not sure they even have parts for that model”. It’s just upsetting. 2 grand for a macbook… that’s 400 a year. Should I just buy a $400 laptop every year instead investing in another apple product? If you’re reading this call and complain. Post your story. Be angry. This is very unfortunate. Apple is no longer apple.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.4

FYI, Apple did have a free repair program for this issue for the 13" 2016 model, but Apple never acknowledged the issue for any other model even though I have personally seen the same issue on 2017 - 2020 models as well (both 13" & 15" models). These forums are full of reports from other users as well.

The 2016 model just went "Vintage" which means Apple will still repair the laptop (for a fee) as long as the necessary parts are still available.

You can check your local consumer protection laws to see if you have any other legal recourse in your region.

You can provide Apple with product feedback here:

I can certainly understand your frustration here since the failure is due to a design flaw. One of many with that laptop. The Apple of today is definitely not the same Apple while Steve Jobs was in charge. It is a shame.
