How can I set my iPad v 15.6.1 to ask for a passcode less frequently?

You will see a Passcode challenge when waking your iPad from its sleep state. You can set the inactivity time period that is allowed prior to auto-lock occurring:
Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock - set as required
