Carplay causing Music app to freeze

A few days ago, my Music app's UI has started to freeze when it connects to CarPlay. What is strange is that it's not only freezing on the CarPlay UI, but also on the iPhone if I open it up. As soon as I unplug from CarPlay, the freezing stops. I've tried to hard restart the phone, forgetting the car from Settings->General->CarPlay, but with no change in behavior.

If I ask Siri to play a song, it will work, but sometimes will stop playing after a couple minutes. The Music UI never changes. This was working fine until 2-3 days ago.

This is on an iPhone running iOS 16.

Hello, The Shockwave.

Please check this article to start off with: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open - Apple Support.

It offers the following tips to resolve this:

    1. "Close and reopen the app: Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.
    2. Restart your device: Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.
    3. Check for updates: To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad.
    4. Delete the app, then redownload it: Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed."

In addition, this CarPlay article may offer more help: If you need help with CarPlay - Apple Support.

Try any applicable steps:

    1. "Check your connection to your CarPlay stereo. If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one. If you have a wireless connection, make sure that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled under Settings > Wi-Fi and Settings > Bluetooth.
    2. If CarPlay doesn't activate automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display.
    3. Restart your iPhone and your car.
    4. Make sure that Siri is on.
    5. If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.
    6. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Forget This Car. Then set up CarPlay again.
    7. Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information."

Let us know if we can help with anything else at all or if this doesn't settle your issue. Thanks and have a fabulous day!
