Apple watch cannot update to OS9

Hello! I have Watch SE, but i cant upgrade to watch os9. I use Iphone 7, upgraded to latest IOS for this model (15.7) and when i open my watch app and tap on Update software messages comes out- ''To update the software on your apple watch, you first need to update the software on your Iphone''. I do that (latest version is 15.7). I open my watch and tap on software update then message comes out- ''unable to chek for update. An error occured while cheking for a software update''. Restart watch or Iphone they dont help. Can you help me?

Perfectly happy with the 6s so no intention of updating the iPhone at this stage. Just a money grab by Apple. Not happy!

My iPad Mini4 does not need my iPhone to update, why is the iWatch so linked?

For WatchOS9 your phone must be running at least ios16,that means an iphone 8 or higher.

As I have a iPhone 6s running iOS 15.7 (latest iOS) I can never update my Series 7 iWatch again?

There has to be a solution even for the sake of security.

You can update your watch again but you will need an iphone 8 or higher to update it.

Because the watch is an accessory of the phone.
