Authentication

Hi trying to update to Monterey 12.5.1 but get as "Authentication is disabled" after putting in my password on a MacBook pro.


Any ideas?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 12.5

Did you try download form a SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

and compare your results.



If no resolve you can —

Try starting the update using the command line, this will bypass the secure token/owner check from the Software Update pref pane


from the Terminal.app copy and paste:

sudo softwareupdate -i -a -R




-i Install

-a All appropriate updates

-R Automatically restart (or shut down) if required to complete installation)
