When I connect my iPhone I get a window showing "downloading 1 item" but nothing happens

When I connect my iPhone I get a window showing "downloading 1 item" but nothing happens. the message window just sits there. I have tried 'force quit' but there is nothing in the list that references the download window. Interestingly, if I then go to 'software update' via system information, that too freezes and I just get the spinner. This works when the "downloading 1 item" window is not showing. This is really annoying as every time I connect my iPhone to my MAC using the lightning cable this "downloading 1 item" window pops up and the only way to clear it is to restart my MAC. see dropbox link for screenshot.

Hey there, JC_DJ!

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

We want to help make sure that when you connect your iPhone to your Mac, everything works seamlessly. It sounds like this popup may be coming from Music or Finder, is that right? It's possible that you may have an update available for your iPhone. If that's the case, you can download the update wirelessly or via iTunes by following the steps here: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

It's a good idea to give that a shot so that you can hopefully get that notification to stop popping up. If that doesn't do the trick, reply back here with more information on the issue and the community may be able to weigh in further.

Cheers!
