is there a way to be able to hear the maps navigator while on a phone call? Using google maps you can be on a phone call and still hear the directions. however I would much rather use Apple Maps

Use the guidance below to turn on spoken directions. Keep in mind, while on a call, the call audio will be priority:
To change the volume, press the volume buttons on the side of iPhone.
In Settings, you can choose whether to pause spoken audio (like podcasts and audio books) during spoken directions and whether to wake iPhone for spoken directions. When iPhone is connected to a compatible car’s audio system, you can also choose to hear spoken directions while listening to the radio.
Go to Settings > Maps > Spoken Directions, then select your options.
Turn-by-turn spoken directions require iPhone to be connected to the internet, and Precise
Location must be turned on. Cellular data rates may apply (see View or change cellular data settings on iPhone).
