In the middle of a TV episode the sound suddenly went way down and stays that way in other TV shows (These are all downloaded and stored on the HD). Moving the slider in preferences does nothing. Problem does not seem to be happening with music. Nor with the tone played when the computer is restarted.

Thanks. I've already had one session about that and about other things. The specific audio problem was easy, as I had neglected to notice the little slider on the lower left corner (not labelled) that controls the audio level! Other problems are more complicated but I do have hope. Thanks for answering.

If you've already isolated this down to these specific tv shows or movies and other content does play audio as expected, we'd advise contacting Apple Support directly for additional assistance.
