How long should “preparing source” take when initializing a new MacBook from a backup disc?

I currently have a 2017 model running macOS Monterey 12.5.1. I have made a couple backups with time machine and plan on doing again before my new MacBook Pro arrives next week. New iMac My new 24 inch, M1 Chip iMac arrives today, my old iMac is a 21.5 inch late 2013, intel model, I've seen mixed reviews in regards to a clean install vs backing up from the time machine, I rang Apple and they said that it was perfectly fine to back up to the new computer via the time machine, I'm still undecided, thoughts anyone?

Best way to transfer from 2013 MacPro to 2022 MacPro? I'm finally moving to a new MacPro tower but I was wondering what is the best way to transfer from my old 2013 MacPro? Should I use the migration app or can I do a Time Machine restoration on the new MacPro? I'm still on 10.14 with the old MacPro because of legacy apps, (Logic9) but I'm not sure if a Time Machine backup would work with the new architecture and new OS? Your thoughts, thanks in advance.
