New MacBook Pro setup

What is the best way to have a seamless transition to a new MacBook Pro. I am asking because I believe I had an issue the last time I did this. I currently have a 2017 model running macOS Monterey 12.5.1. I have made a couple backups with time machine and plan on doing again before my new MacBook Pro arrives next week. I seem to recall having issues with the newer machine not having the most recent MacOS update. What is the best process to upgrade my new machine with my saved time machine backup?

The easier way is to use Migration Assistant.

If you're uncomfortable with that, you can use an external HDD (not a TM dataset) and copy and paste from get old Mac to the new Mac.

Your new Mac has updated Apple apps; you'll need to reinstall 3rd party apps and make whatever settings and preferences changes you want. Licensed non Apple apps will need to be reinstalled per the developers instruction for doing so on a new computer.
