eSIM in Europe with US number

If I’m traveling to Europe do I need to have an international plan with Verizon to receive texts on my US number, or can I use an eSIM as a primary data and still receive texts to my US number without incurring a foreign roaming cost? It sounds like I can set my primary cellular data to the eSIM number, but will that still allow me to get texts on my US based number if I don’t have an international plan?

if you have the US SIM card active through all this travel all messages should come through but you might not receive them right then if you have no international plan

So you would definitely have to have an international plan to receive them in your travel

or use I messaging with Apple ID
