Messages app crashes when charging

My iOS messages app crashes just about every time I charge my phone. When it crashes I cannot send or receive texts, make phone calls, look at my contacts, or look at anything in the settings app related to storage, icloud, or messages.

There only work around is too restart the phone which I have to do several times a day.

This issue has been going on for years and has followed me from iPhone SE to an iPhone 12, and now to my iPhone 13. This issue has continued through iOS versions 13, 14, and 15. I'm currently on version 15.5.

I've done hard resets, restore from icloud, restore from PC iTunes backup, start fresh without restoring a backup.

I've tried every crazy suggestion I've seen on threads over the last 3 years including turning off FaceTime, using different wattage chargers, and clearing out old message attachments.

I'm desperate for help since apple support in store was no help.

If I use someone else's Apple ID the problem goes away. Also if I use my Apple ID on a different device the problem follows me. It takes a while, and I suspect there is something in my icloud profile that locks up iOS, but Everything I've tried to clear and reset my account has failed.

The issue happens in any location, several states and countries, on wifi and just on cellular service.

Any advice on how to reach them? I feel like I won't be able too get past basic support our genius bar help.

Not specifically. I’d use the usual calling-support approach…

Gather up all of your data—all of it, exactly what was done, what tests were run, everything, versions and hardware, with detailed outcomes, and written clearly and concisely—and then call Apple Support.

Pass along the information; probably best posted somewhere that Apple can read, such as a public file posted in iCloud.

In short, provide Apple with the details that are necessary to skip past the initial call-handling.
