Phone glitches after receiving a phone call

I have seen similar things to this in the community because I've been googling it a lot and honestly am starting to pull my hair out a bit. If I am listening to music when a phone call comes in it then makes Apple Music and any other apps that play sound incredibly glitchy. Usually it can play sound for 4 or 5 seconds but then it 'skips' before restarting. It also makes the controls on apps like Apple Music and Spotify very slow, ie if I try and pause or play the music or adjust the volume it will take a few seconds to do so. Similarly if I use something like YouTube it will either play the sound fine, but the picture glitches or the picture will be fine but the sound can't keep up. As yet I've not been able to find any clear resolve for this other than to wait it out, but sometimes it takes a couple of hours for it to sort itself out. No amount of restarting the phone, deleting and reinstalling the apps etc helps. It also seems a lot to ask that every time I get a phone call I have to reinstall Apple Music (and my entire library which last time I did it took about 6 hours and didn't even resolve the issue right away).

As I said, it does eventually come back, but I use Apple Music a lot throughout the day and it is frustrating that it becomes unavailable to me for hours at a time because my phone has done one of it's most basic requirements... receiving a phone call.

My phone isn't too full storage-wise and the software is up to date.

Hi beccarghh,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities!

We understand that after you receive a phone call, your iPhone isn't performing as you'd expect it to.

Have you noticed if this happens in more than one location? It sounds like it may be your network connection. This is a great resource to help you to isolate this behavior further: About iOS or iPadOS performance on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Check your network conditions
Many apps on your device require an internet connection for their content and other functionality. If the network that you're connected to is congested—for example, at an event with many people using the same network—apps might take a while to open or display their content. Your device can also seem slow as it repeatedly reconnects to new cell towers when you're in a moving vehicle.
Even if your device indicates a strong signal, you might need to wait, try again in a different location, or use available Wi-Fi. If you continue to experience issues with cellular data speed, availability, or performance in multiple locations, contact your carrier.

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
