Touch Bar - Spaces - Control Strip expand problem

I have the same problem as mentioned in these 3 other topics:

When changed the Touch Bar to spaces view… - Apple Community

Touch Bar in spaces view, the Control Str… - Apple Community

Touch Bar - Spaces - Control Strip - Apple Community

This is more of a software issue, since "App controls" option expands the control strip normally and it folds back, but any other option that shows the small control strip (spaces, quick actions) is having this problem where the expanded control strip is not functional

There doesn't seem to be a resolution for this -> is there any progress on apple side?

When i went to apple support (Contact - Official Apple Support) about this issue, the only option is to bring the mac to my local retailer for repairs, but they don't have the insight on resolving this issue and told me to contact apple support (which again sends me to my retailer, it's an infinite loop)

I've also sent feedback via this link: Feedback - MacBook Pro - Apple to help escalate the issue

Thank you, I have now had a chance to get to my mac and try this. I confirm that the expanded control strip only works if "App Controls" are selected. I had not heard of this problem before, and sinceI always use the touch bar with "App Controls", I would not have found this bug.

I think that all each of us can do is use feedback to report it directly: https://www.apple.com/feedback.

Like you, I am using 12.5.

If you don't really use the Fn keys as such (which I believe is the case for many users), there is a workaround to this error: in System Preferences->Keyboard->Keyboard, set "Press and hold Fn key to" to "Expand Control Strip". This does work, even with "Spaces" or "Quick Actions" selected. All you have to do is keep holding Fn when you need the extended control strip.

(Actually, I had this set already, and use this feature, mainly to adjust volume using the buttons instead of the slider; much quicker to Fn and volume up or down, rather than click on the touch bar and drag the slider)

Well, i am currently using a similar setup -> function keys (f1...f12) as the main touch bar display with expanded control strip when i keep the fn button pressed

the actual setup i would like to use is:

spaces + control strip on the main touch bar display

function keys (f1...f12) then i keep fn pressed down

this way i can have 3 functions for the touch bar instead of the current 2

i believe that this is a minor software bug on apple side since the touch bar can work on other settings and it shows the animation with spaces, it just doesn't finish the animation and show the expanded control strip
