I have lost my phone however i did not have findmyphone app switched on with location

how am i able to trace where it is

Find My Phone must be turned on to trace your phone. Check this link...

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen - Apple Support

Sorry, no way to track the iPhone if Find My was not enabled.
