Connect firewire 400 iMac to thunderbolt 2 iMac. What Cable is needed?

I have a 2005 iMac with firewire ports. Monitor quit working and I need to get data off hard drive.

I can launch in "Target mode" but my 2012 Intel iMac has Thunderbolt ports (I believe Thunderbolt 2).

What kind of cable do I need?

You can use the Apple Thunderbolt to Firewire Adapter and the appropriate Firewire cable.

If this a PPC iMac G5, then it may be easier just to remove the hard drive and connect to your other Mac using a drive dock or enclosure since the back of an iMac G5 is easily removed. Unfortunately if it is an Intel iMac, then it is much more difficult to open the iMac since the release levers tend to stick & jam on those white Intel iMacs.

You should always have frequent and regular backups of your computer and all external media (including the cloud) which contains important & unique data.
