iPad Pro FaceTime audio (mic) not working after using bluetooth headsets

I have an iPad Pro 11. After connecting AirPods or a Bose bluetooth headset to listen to music or watch a video, then disconnecting the headsets, the FaceTime audio (mic on my end) does not work.

Ie: I will call someone without using the headset and I can hear them but they cannot hear me. The iPad will not pick up my audio.

Audio (mic) will still work normally if I use a headset, however if we are doing a family FaceTime call, (all family as a group in one room using the iPad, calling other family members) we can’t as a group use the one set of headphones.

I have tried uninstalling and install FaceTime, doing a soft reset, forgetting my bluetooth devices and various other suggestions listed on the support forum and on the internet. I am running the latest software version.

Apple Genius Bar fix is to do a hard reset. This has worked temporarily but as soon as I reconnect a bluetooth headset the issue recurs.

I do not want to do a hard reset and have to set up my iPad anew each time I connect to a bluetooth headset. That is a ridiculous expectation and not a permanent fix. I should be able to use both a headset and also the normal audio on my iPad - without having to reset my iPad every time I use a headset.

If anyone else has experienced this issue and has a fix, appreciate any help.

Or if you have this issue as well, please flag so Apple can create a solution in the next update to ensure iPad defaults back to the correct audio mic after connecting to a bluetooth headset.

Hi Bryanr14,

Thank you for the reply and the link.

Unfortunately I have already gone through the above tested the microphone on other apps and on the voice memos app and camera / video. Apologies, I should have listed that also.

This appears to be a software issue that only affects FaceTime.

Appreciate any other suggestions you may have.

Regards
