macOS 12.5 (Monterey) Update not accepting admin user's password

As we have been updating our Macs to the latest version of Monterey (macOS 12.5), we've run into a few Macs (all of them M1 MacBook Pros) where when the update is run, and the user is prompted to authenticate with their credentials that the update will not accept their password (preventing the update from being installed).

We can confirm that they're keying in their proper password, and that their account is an administrator for the machine. We've even had them run other software installation programs and had those install without any issues.

Our workaround is to log on with a different administrator account to install the macOS 12.5 update, but it's not an ideal solution for us, especially when many of our users are still working from home part or full time.

How are you having these Macs updated? Are you managing them through an MDM or are you having the users actually run the Software Update themselves manually?

What OS are these Macs currently running? Are you performing an OS upgrade to a new major version, or are you just installing an update (aka patch) to an existing Monterey installation?

Have you tried having them boot into Safe Mode and trying to install the update/upgrade?

All of the Macs are running macOS Monterey 12.4 and are merely trying to update to 12.5.

So how did things go when updating Monterey with the earlier patches? Same thing or did this just start after the 12.4 update?

If any of your M1 Macs began with Big Sur, was this also an issue with Big Sur updates?
