Selecting a recovery individual

Have any of you every had an issue setting up a recovery contact person? The individuals I attempted to add ALL have Apple products but yet the error message said, “aren’t using iMessage” which is not the case. Please help

If you already tried (to no avail) ALL the steps provided in this support article, and if you and your correspondent meet the minimum requirements:--> Set up an account recovery contact - Apple Support, contact Apple support directly, using this link:--> Get Support
