I have purchased Word but not appears I'm being forced to purchased excel and or other items before word 465 can be used.

No. Word, Excel, and Power Point on iOS are all included with the one Office 365 Subscription. There are no separate purchases nor can you actually buy Word for iPhone in any way.
You can download Word for Free form the App Store, and on an iPhone its use is also free. It may suggest you subscribe to Office 365, but you can ignore that as its nor necessary. You will need to be logged in to a Microsoft account however.
