Why does my iPad always show "9:41 Tue, Jan 9"

I read another post and the explanation is completely wrong. No matter how I set my time, automatic update, or keep is set to manual, I have two times at all times. The time on the top-left of my screen always shows "9:41 Tue, Jan 9" but the clock widget and the lock screen always show the correct time.

See below:

Somewhere, there is something hard-coded or accessing the wrong variable. As you can see from part of my screen shot, the time on the clock is correct but the top-left is always a static value. And no, this is not a wallpaper selection screen... this is always on the top-left of my main screen.

I just realized that it does this whenever I hook my iPad to my Macbook. This is not very helpful because I can't tell when it's charged because it always reads 100% battery when the time switches.

This whole switching the date to when Steve Jobs announced the iPhone might be cute to Apple but pretty stupid and causing erroneous information to users... they should take that out of the code or make it only behave that way when someone is previewing a new wallpaper.
