Keynote 12.1 unable to import images or save

Since the update to 12.1 I have continuously run into errors when trying to import or replace images, and with saving a new document to my computer. Error messages appear and the only way to complete the task is to close Keynote, and attempt again. Only rarely is it successful.

The save issue is also present on other iWork apps.

Try resetting Keynote by completing all of the following steps in the order listed:

  1. ensure you have a current backup of all your user files, saved to a separate drive
  2. close all applications
  3. uninstall Keynote; for this procedure to work, an application removal tool must be used, App Delete has a free trial and works for this procedure. It can be downloaded from the developer’s website here:  App Delete
  4. empty the Trash (Finder > Empty Trash)
  5. restart the Mac (Apple Menu > Restart);  Immediately after the Apple startup sound, press the shift key on the keyboard, release shift when the Apple icon appears. Start up will take longer than usual as the Mac is performing a software repair of the start up drive
  6. After the Mac is fully powered up, restart the Mac normally:   Apple Menu > Restart
  7. reinstall Keynote from the Mac App Store Application
  8. Restart the Mac again

To get more specific help from the community, please share additional information:

1) focus on a specific app for now

2) focus on a particular document (does the problem center on a particular document or ALL documents, or some set of documents?)

3) What are the error messages? Share screenshots.

To share a screenshot do the following:

1) get the item you want to share in view on the screen (if needed)

2) type the key combination: <command>+<shift>+4, then cursor will change to a crosshair

3) click and hold at one corner of the are you want to share

4) drag to the opposite, diagonal corner, release

5) in this forum, click the attach image icon in the toolbar. The icon is a small page with two mountains and a sun,

6) navigate to the desktop and select the file on the desktop named something like "Screen Shot 2022-07-22 at 4.46.25 PM.png"
