magic trackpad only works when not plugged in

I recently got a new Mac Studio, which is the first time I've used Monterrey. Since I've upgraded, if I plug in the trackpad, I can move the cursor, but clicking anything freezes the machine. I do not feel the haptic feedback of a click, and the cursor will no longer move. Once frozen, the only way to unfreeze is to unplug the trackpad, at which point all cursor actions taken since freezing will happen all at once.

The trackpad works fine on Bluetooth. But this means I can't charge the trackpad at the same time that I'm using it.

Mac Studio, macOS 12.4
