Scrolling bug in MacOS Apple Music app

I've just recently got my first MacBook and noticed a very annoying bug in Apple Music app;

very often, randomly, after selecting a certain song or not even touching anything, the page will leap either to the very bottom of my library or, more often, a couple (e.g. 25-50) songs forward. So basically it is as if I would scroll down a bit myself, it is really annoying. I haven't really noticed a pattern at which this bug happens but it always happens after renaming a file among other instances. Also, I am using only the touchpad and this scroll bug only appears to me in Apple Music app. I've read that this issues has been addressed many times already but there was no helpful answer. I also want to add that I don't have that problem on iTunes on my Windows PC.

tnik99,

It sounds like you've done some incredible troubleshooting already. We'd like to clarify a few things to ensure we have an accurate understanding and can provide the best guidance.

  • Does the cursor skip or scroll down like this when you're actively listening to music or when you're scrolling through your library looking for a song to play?
  • If it only happens during playback, is it happening with content that is streaming or downloaded to your Mac?
  • If it happens even when you're browsing and not actively listening, tell us a little more about your setup. Are you using any external accessories like another mouse/keyboard? If you're using the built-in keyboard and trackpad, do you wear any jewelry like a bracelet or rings?

These details will help us decide the path to take for troubleshooting.

As a side note, if your new MacBook is a model with an Apple silicon processor (most MacBook models introduced in 2020 or later), the standard steps to reset the SMC are no longer valid. Just connect your MagSafe charger and restart your computer! You can learn more in the highlights section near the top here: How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support

We look forward to learning more.

Cheers.

Hi tnik99,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities! Since noticing this issue has the Apple Music app been closed out and your MacBook restarted? To close out the app go to the Music menu > Quit Music. Then to restart your Mac go to the Apple Menu (  ) > Restart.

You should also confirm that you are running the latest version of the macOS ( macOS Monterey 12.4) since the Music app updates as part of the OS. You can confirm if there are any updates to install by going to the Apple Menu (  ) > System Preference > Software Updates.

  • Only when scrolling through the library, regardless of whether the music is playing or not. However, I believe at least one song has to be selected/marked (meaning clicked on, making it appear red) in order for the bug to then happen. Apart from that, I've also noticed that this bug always appears when I am selecting any song and then trying to choose a different sorting option at the top of the screen (e.g. by title/artist/rating etc.) - in that case, after choosing any sorting option the screen immediately flicks to the very end of my library and then I have to scroll back up to find the selected song.
  • Doesn't matter whether content is downloaded or streamed, I've tried both and the bug is still there regardless.
  • I'm not using any external accessories or wearing any jewellery.

Thank you so much for your quick responses and eagerness to help!

Yes, I've tried all that and also I have the latest MacOS installed (12.4). I also searched on web for this issue and many Apple staff support suggested to start up the Mac in safe mode as well as resetting the system management controller (SMC) - both did not work for me... I believe this's been a known bug for quite some time now, at least since version 12.
