Mac won't let save files or attach files to emails

Hi, idk what's the issue since this has happened all of a sudden. When I wish to save anything to my Mac or attach a file to an email either outlook or gmail, the window that opens up that lets you choose the path you want to save the file or lets you select which file to attach is frozen and clicking on different folders in that window doesn't do anything. Anyone has any clue how to fix this?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.13

You do not clarify if this is the Mail.app or a third party mail client.

Can you drag and drop the attachment to the Desktop?

Can you Control click the Attachment...(?)

No insight or resolve— attaching files as you discribe

—Quit Mail, hold the Shift key and re-launch mail to test.

—further you can Safeboot the Mac and test for third party interference:

SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Takes a bit longer to get to the login screen, does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, font cache, etc.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

In Safe mode third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled, it removes malware, etc impacting the smooth operation, however a reboot will put it back to normal mode.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.
