Ipad wake up screen gray

i have an unusual problem with my ipad, its not that troubling but i cant find anyone online having this issue and it gets annoying sometimes.

When i open my smart cover, sometimes the screen will be gray (a few tones lighter than the usual black) like its half asleep, then i have to press the 'power' button once, to wake it up fully.

Usually this happens when the ipad has been asleep for long (covered) , when i wake it up (go trough the gray screen) and after the wake up will work normally as long as i dont let it fall asleep for couple of hours.

This will also happen without the cover, the screen is asleep, i press the wake up button, the screen turns gray, i press it again , the ipad wakes up fully and shows the lock screen.

Ive been having this issue since i bought it, so i dont think its a software bug, perhaps its some kind of a feature that im not aware of?

Hi DeadlyNinjaLHS,

We're wondering if you've had the chance to see if Dark Mode is enabled? If you go to Settings > Display and Brightness and check the Settings there, what do you see? Toggling both Dark Mode and True Tone may help with your issue. Be sure to toggle one at a time and see if either turning each feature off or on again helps. Since both of these features are part of your display settings, we think this is an excellent troubleshooting step.

My ipad is up to date (ive been having this issue since i bought it in 2019),also restarted it many times by now and it hasnt fixed the problem since it still persists.

There really aren't any settings that would cause this to happen. However, have you tried restarting the iPad to see if the issue persists? Is the device up-to-date? If so we'd recommend reaching out for additional support here: Get Support
