I'm using this charger on an iPhone 12 but often it doesn't actually charge the phone. I have to unplug it and plug it back in several times before it starts charging then it often fails. it does the same to my iPhone 7 too. The cable is completely undamaged, it's fairly new.

I tried plugging the cable into my laptop as it takes USB-C. I had the same problem on both iPhones. If I press down on the cable where it enters the phone it starts to charge.
The cable and charger are Apple and were bought together from Argos. I wonder if I should return it and say I have contacted you?
If this issue happens on 2 separate devices and you can confirm that the cable is good then it sounds like the adapter is bad. To be 100% though I would suggest trying a different cable, just to see. The cable you are using is made by Apple?
I would take the cable back and describe the issue to them and exchange it for a different cable. Be aware that this is a user-to-user forum and tips and suggestions given here are not made by Apple.

and lint in the ios devices connector can cause this, when it happens to me I
use a toothpick or match to clear it out
Thanks (I almost forgot!). I'll take it back on Saturday and see if I can check the replacement before I leave the shop. I did google the issue and it seems a fair few people have had this issue.
