Remote scanner?

I have an HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125nw.   I cannot connect to its scanner remotely.

I have the printer in one room and the MacBook (OS 12.4) in another.  They are both connected to the same network.

I have no trouble printing wirelessly to the HP.

The Printers & Scanners Preference lists the HP as a printer but not as a scanner.  The “kind” is “HP LaserJet Pro MFP M125nw-AirPrint.”

HP Easy Scan does not show the scanner.

I had HP Easy Start open.  It reported that it was “Preparing for Device Setup.”  It was at this stage for many minutes, without any progress.

I have in the past connected the MacBook and the HP by USB cable.   The scanner works then.  But I want to scan remotely as easily as I can print remotely.

Any guesses as to what the problem is?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.4

That's good, because it means you should be able to use your Mac's native scanning capabilities: Scan images or documents using a scanner and your Mac

My personal preference is to use Preview for scanning: Scan a document or image in Preview on Mac - Apple Support

Any guesses as to what the problem is?

Typically lousy HP software, but that is only a guess, since you asked. I suggest that you forget about using HP software.

Since the printer is AirPrint compatible try the following:

1 - go to the System/Printers & Scanners preference pane

2 - remove the printer from the left hand pane.

3 - add it back with the AirPrint option.

4 - try scanning again - either with your "standard" scanning app or with Preview or Image Capture.

If all else fails download the demo version of VueScan  and try it wo scan. I use it with my HP LaserJet M110w. I find it much more powerful than the software that came with my scanners.
