I have a 10-year-old iMac that has been in storage for the last three years since we moved to Ireland. I'm going to buy a new one, but I'm wondering about the best way to get photos, documents, etc. transferred from the old one. I have a Time Capsule for it, but I could also get a large thumb drive. I don't want to transfer any programs, etc., just the data. What's the best way to go?

You can use a TM backup and during the initial setup you can omit the apps and just transfer files and settings. Do not use any WiFi process as it can fail and it is very slow. Connect using cable only.
