Snow Leopard and exFat

My brother's iMac running macOS 10.6.2 cannot read an exFat-formatted drive. Why is that?

exFat support in Snow Leopard was added in 10.6.5. Your brother needs to update from 10.6.2 to the latest version of Snow Leopard. Actually it would be best if he updated to the latest version of macOS that supports his iMac.
