trying to read 3.5 floppies with external floppy drive on Macbook Pro

I'm trying to read floppies with external Dell floppy drive module on Macbook Pro with Mojave 10.14.6.

These are 3.5 PC disks from the 90s.

I’ve used USB 3.5” floppy drives for this, though decades-old floppies may or may not be readable, and floppies using a format other than FAT12 or another common scheme can be trouble, too.
