How to quit mail on new MacBook Pro?

I am want to shut down my computer and it is telling me to quit mail first so I can shut down.

I go to the icon of mail and it does not allow me? I don't understand . Appreciate any assistance.

Command Q is used to quit any app. If that's not working do a force quit: How to force an app to quit on your Mac – Apple Support (AU)
