Need to upgrade my old iMac (2007) model 7,1 from 10.8.5 to a higher one software, Please help

I need to upgrade my iMac (2007) model 7,1 from 10.8.5 to a higher, after reading, it seems I must first upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard. is this true? Any help would be appreciated.

iMac 24 inch

Memory 1GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.

LC2 cache : 4MB

Boot rom Version: IM71.007A.B03

SMC Version (system): 1.20f4

with Safari is on version 5.0.6.

Not true. Snow Leopard is older. The latest version you can install is OS X El Capitan 10.11.6.

iMac 24” 2007 tops out at OS X 10.11, and a direct upgrade from OS X 10.8 works.


Have a backup prior to the upgrade.

OS X 10.11 will require manually adding the “new” LetsEncrypt root certificate, if you plan to use Safari or other tools to access websites using those certificates.
