Big Sur: no printer driver needed. High Sierra: driver won't work because Big Sur can't scan it.

My Canon Pro9000II worked on my iMac with High Sierra. Upgraded to a Mac mini with Big Sur. I tried to Add Printer but I can't Choose a Driver because one doesn't exist and/or I don't know how to find it. Regardless, I went to Canon and tried to download one for Big Sur, but it isn't needed. So, I downloaded the one for High Sierra - when it did work - and tried to install it. Got an Error Message saying it can't be installed because it can't be scanned for viruses by Big Sur. So, I'm in a loop. Any ideas on how to get my printer working again? Grateful for your thoughts.

Update. I searched my hard drive for the printer driver I used in High Sierra and found the .pkg install program. I installed it and now my printer is added. Therefore, I solved my problem.

I will note, however, this is a stupid situation for someone upgrading their own OS. It's not a 32 bit program annulled by Mohave. It's a simple printer driver.

Yes, old printer support is a nuisance when upgrading the OS. We have Samsung ML-1675 that works in High Sierra and Mojave but I have not got it to work in Big Sur no matter what driver or similar recommended driver I choose. So we print either from an old MacBook 2009 running High Sierra or from a VMware VM running Mojave (or older) from Big Sur.
