Copying files from journaled encrypted HPFS+ (pre macOS 10.15 Catalina) to APFS (macOS 12 Monterey)

Restoring Data from an older MacBookPro8,3 to a MacBookPro16,1 is causing some problems with an error message:

"You can't copy filename.doc because it has the same name as another item on the destination volume, and that volume does not distinguish between upper- and lower-case letters in filenames." OK?

Copying with Finder.

Using CLI and iTerm3 also complained about the problem between the partition maps.

Any suggestions how the files can be copied in the identical directory structure on the external drive to the internal MacBook drive?

There are screen captures if needed; how can tey be uploaded?

I may be missing something but why not first copy the destination volume to a case-sensitive APFS volume. Once done, the files from the source volume can be copied to the case-sensitive copy without resulting in naming conflicts.

I have this issue as well. The destination hard drive is formatted APFS, and the hard drive I am copying from is AFPS (Case Sensitive). However I am copying to an empty folder. But midway through the copy I get that error message and the copy fails. But when I retry and copy the folder again, the finder asks to resume. When I do, the operation succeeds. Seems like a weird bug.

It sounds like one file system was case sensitive, and the other is not. Try restoring to another folder and rename it.

You can upload images with the image tool in the toolbar.
