It depends on your carrier and on the exact iPhone model you own.
It's an "Axxxx" code (where xxxx are four numbers), that you can find in Settings>General>About>Model Number (tap there twice).
Then check that code in this support list:--> https://www.apple.com/iphone/cellular/

What exactly do you mean if "apple have a take"? Cellular speed is dependent on the carrier, and the band they use. The iPhone will support the bands in their particular region, i.e. an iPhone configured for sale in the US will support the bands used by all US carriers. Apple does not determine speed.
