It sounds like you are still running Windows 7 or 8. The latest versions of iTunes require Windows 10 or 11.

What is the error message?
Also tell us what you see in
Settings > General > About > Model Name > ?
and which Software Version installed?
Was an old iphone 6s, need to update to ios 15.1
