Just updated from mojave to big sur, how to Itransfer my iphoto file to photos

Here are some steps that may help.

Quit the Photos app, then press and hold the Option key as you open the Photos app.
Select your iPhoto Library, then select Choose Library.

Thanks, it worked, Puzzles me though, why can't Apple say this up front and plain iknstead of causing us to have to hunt around for a solution
