I have the default 5 GB, but only 73 MB used on the phone... Yet it tells me that there's no space on Icloud to backup. I logged in to the web page and there's no files listed on icloud... What's up? My phone keeps complaining it cannot backup and trying to get me to purchase more space.

Ah ok... My phone says 73.7. When I check online (web page) it says there is nothing there. I'm sorry a bit of a neophile here, but looking at my 'icloud drive' on my browser shows two folders - Downloads, and shortcuts... Both empty. I was wondering if backups from my PREVIOUS phone were still out there, but if so I don't know where to look to see if that's what is using the space.
That works... On my phone it shows 72.7 used. I found on the web page I can click on my name (top right) and go to settings, it also shows 4.93 GB available on the cloud, so it agrees in both places. Seems like there's lots of room.
Are you sure it's only using 73MB? That's mighty low
Yes, that is what it says on the phone... I'm NOT backing up pictures (which is the largest), as I have MS Onedrive to back those up separately... it says 72.7 MB used on my iphone...
Ok just to verify and make sure that I understand you right: it says that you are using 73mb of ICloud storage or 73mb of phone storage?
Correct... and yet tells me there's no space on Icloud to backup.
My question had an 'or'.... which one is it? 73mb of iPhone storage or 73mb of iCloud Storage? If it's the latter, be aware that iCloud backups can exceed 5GB depending on storage use on the iPhone.
To see what's using up iCloud storage you can go to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Storage. It should list any App(s) that's using space in iCloud.
