i have a 2007 imac that refuses to boot. Ive gone through the process shown above and every time it tries to connect to the internet the screen freezes and stays like that for days on end

Try Safe Mode, as per > https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262
If that doesn't work?
Dig out the original install disc set that came with that iMac.
Startup from disc one and select utilities from the menu bar.
Open disk utility and see if you can repair your Macintosh HD.
My 2007 iMac is corrupt and also frizzes up . I can't do anything for long. I need to reinstall the mac os but have not met with any success. I don't know what OS is installed. Need help!
Please start a new thread on Apple Support Communities. That way it does not get cluttered with multiple people's Mac issues.
