When I try to boot my imac after a while I get a picture of a folder with a “?”.
Any ideas to boot it. I have tried to reinstall the system folder without success. Does it sound as though the hard disk has died.

A folder with a flashing question mark means that your startup disk is no longer available or doesn't contain a working Mac operating system.

Thanks for the advice. No luck, I think the hard disk must have “died”.
Fortunately, this is an old iMac that is kept for “emergencies”. I will look into the cost of repairing it.
