When trying to start the chime ring continuously with a blank screen

My 2012 iMac will not start up, when trying all I get is the start Chime ringing constantly the screen is completely blank

2010 iMac chimes but switches off after switching start up disc. My iMac is normally fine but when I changed the start up disc today from High Sierra to Sierra it refused to start. It chimes and the light grey screen with progress bar opens but after a few seconds it switches off. It's the same when trying to start in safe mode. I thought it might be heat but it's the same even when cold.

Please try restarting in Safe Mode per the directions in Use Safe Mode to isolate issues with your Mac
