issues with big sur 11.2.1

I can't seem to update Big Sur 11.2.1 on my iMac 2017. it will get so far then on the preparing it will stay stuck on 15 mins remaining.

please can someone offer any advice?

Hi Tard1s40,

In my experience, the "Preparing" stage on non-SSD Macs takes longer than 15 minutes.

On one of my older Macs (1TB 5400rpm HDD), it took around 45 minutes to prepare. Be patient. If it still does not go, restart your Mac, then try in Safe Mode: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support.

If you're going thru the System/Software Update preference pane try going to the App Store, search for Big Sur and download from there.
