Big Sur Update 11.6.5 Fails to Install

I have been trying to install the latest Big Sur update for a few months and each time the install fails and tells me to try again later. I have searched for potential causes and have found nothing. I am fairly new to iMac (<3 years) and this is the first problem I have encountered.

iMac 21.5" (Mac19,2)

3GHz 6-core Intel Core i5

6GB 2667 MHz DDR4

Radeon Pro 560X 3 GB

1.03 TB Fusion Drive (25.04 GB free)

macOS Big Sur 11.6

iMac 21.5″, macOS 11.6

The latest update/upgrade for a 2019 iMac is 12.3.1 Monterey.

and today was the first time that Monterey was an upgrade option. It still failed to update, though, so there is that. I have now resorted to erasing all user files and apps.

Remove any add-on VPN client apps, add-on cleaner apps, or add-on “security” apps, and restart through Safe Mode, and try again.
