Why does Apple force you to upgrade?

I am afraid to turn my computer off because it may automatically start the upgrade. The last time this happened to me, my computer stopped working and I was forced to upgrade. The upgrade killed the iMac I owned at the time.

Now, I have a new iMac, but am still afraid of the forced upgrade. Cisco has not yet upgraded to match the new OS, if I upgrade I will not be able to work from home since we use Cisco AnyConnect to access all shared files.

To keep your Mac from auto updating:

Go to "System Preferences" under to Apple logo in the upper left corner of your screen.

Click on the "Software Update" box

Check to see if the "Automatically Keep my Mac up to date" box is checked. If it is, uncheck it.

This should keep your Mac from auto updating.
