Apple Watch not able to pair while going through software update

when I try to pair my Apple Watch to my iPhone. I need to update the watch to iOS 7 when I try to update the watch it searches for an update then it says “checking for software update failed because you are not connected to the internet” while I am typing this so I am 100% connected to my WiFi
