Apple phishing scheme or legitimate?

My MacBook Air set off bells and whistles and plastered a WaRNing on my screen that my MAC OS X is infected but if I call 1-888-308-**** immediately Apple Helpline will fix the problem. I’m afraid it’s a scam. Can anybody provide real help?
