Tv remote not working ! :(

So I have I want to say the first Apple TV that came out and recently after the new IOS 14 update my remote had stopped working I already tried resetting it , I tried paring it again but every time I pair it the Apple TV turns off :( I tried charging and nothing is working. Anyone have any idea why ? Do I need to get a new remote ?
