Hi, you just need to setup iMessage on your macbook with the same Apple ID & password on your phone.

Why can't I get them to sync to my iMessages on my Mac. When I completed the steps only 4 contacts messages downloaded and only from June 2019. ??
I did. I have like 12 contacts worth of messages on my phone but only 4 downloaded and the messages stop at June 2019. I have messaged a few of them even just tonight.
Have you tried to turn the Messages sync off/on on the Mac? Also, were they both on Wi-Fi? Try leaving them for 5-6 hours on Wi-Fi and charging.
